WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court has ruled that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge.
New Haven was wrong to scrap a promotion exam because no African-Americans and only two Hispanic firefighters were likely to be made lieutenants or captains based on the results, the court said Monday in a 5-4 decision. The city said that it had acted to avoid a lawsuit from minorities.
The ruling could alter employment practices nationwide, potentially limiting the circumstances in which employers can be held liable for decisions when there is no evidence of intentional discrimination against minorities.
What luck? This happens right in the middle of Sodomayor's candidacy for the Supreme Court. Wow, hope it doesn't hurt her chances.

Idiot= Sotomayor's ruling was in line with the court's decision-in the mainstream. Robert's decisions were turned over 100% of the time. City's were afraid of being sued by minority groups which was the basis for New Haven's decision. Sotomayor deffered to the lower courts ruling on behalf of the city. This in no way reflects badly on Sotomayor whose body of work stands in the center of the political mainstream. Sadly for you fools trying to drum up foolish hay in the face of this woman's extraordinary accomplishments and qualifications- nothing you lie about will stick. The name calling by you right wing loons has just backfired-time and again and you idiots never learn your lessons.

When the hearings start tomorrow- you are going to see the right doing its best to smear and trash this brilliant public servant. I'm sure she will make monkeys -no, baboons of them all.
